Between the mid 1960s and the late 1970s, the long-playing record and the albums that graced its grooves changed popular music for ever. For the first time, musicians could escape the confines of the three-minute pop single and express themselves as never before across the expanded artistic canvas of the album. The LP allowed popular music become an art form – from the glorious artwork adorning gatefold sleeves, to the ideas and concepts that bound the songs together, to the unforgettable music itself.
Built on stratospheric sales of albums, these were the years when the music industry exploded to become bigger than Hollywood. From pop to rock, from country to soul, from jazz to punk, all of music embraced what ‘the album’ could offer. But with the collapse of vinyl sales at the end of the 70s and the arrival of new technologies and formats, the golden era of the album couldn’t last forever.
With contributions from Roger Taylor, Ray Manzarek, Noel Gallagher, Guy Garvey, Nile Rodgers, Grace Slick, Mike Oldfield, Slash and a host of others, this is the story of When Albums Ruled the World.

The Psychedelic Furs – La Edad de Oro (De gira esta semana en Valencia, Barcelona y Madrid)
La Edad de OroEdad de Oro, programa C44 de 1 de enero de 1.985. Antológico.
Este no es un programa normal de La Edad de Oro, ya que se sale del habitual concierto en plató y nos ofrece un concierto exclusivo de The Psychedelic Furs grabado en los Estudios Roma (ahora conocidos como Estudios Buñuel) en Junio de 1984.
Tiene mucho mérito que Paloma Chamorro consiguiese una exclusiva como ésta de un grupo como los Furs en el cénit de su carrera. Y tiene doble valor porque no circula mucho material de The Psychedelic Furs de aquella época y mucho menos un concierto completo y con esta calidad de audio e imagen.
Este es el tercer DVD que creo de este concierto. El primero generado a partir de una grabación en VHS (del que se incluye la portada en la descarga) y el segundo dentro de la serie Stolen Files que como fue compartido en trackers musicales internacionales tiene el añadido de contar con una pista de subtítulos en inglés para que los guiris pudiesen entender las preguntas de Paloma durante la entrevista. Si ya te bajaste la edición de losStolen Files de dimeadozen o hungercity esta versión es prácticamente idéntica, sólo cambia que los menús de esta edición son diferentes, que se incluye la jukebox para escuchar independientemente cada una de las canciones y la intro de Paloma (dos minutos y medio de gloriosa loa al grupo, del tirón, sin teleprompter ni leches. Olé tus huevos, Paloma.). Y que no están los mencionados subtítulos en inglés porque esta edición (y esta serie de programas completos) está creada para la parroquia nacional, no para los guiris.
Ya sabes, esto no se puede comprar con dinero, no está a la venta. Así que yo que tú lo descargaría, lo disfrutaría y pondría una copia a buen recaudo.
¿Se nota que me gustan los Furs? Pues si, sobre todo su album de debut, que es uno de mis discos de cabecera y del que conservo 4 ediciones en vinilo, todas ellas con portadas diferentes, tres europeas y una americana.
Este DVD es también especial para mi por otro motivo, por culpa de esta grabación no pude verles en directo. Inicialmente estaba previsto que actuasen en el campo de fútbol “El Plantío” en las fiestas de Burgos y la grabación de este especial de La Edad de Oro ocupó esa fecha. Finalmente fueron reemplazados por Siniestro Total. O fue así o el amigo Luis Marquina nos estuvo vacilando cosa seria.
Este DVD me resarce, en parte, de aquella oportunidad perdida.
